“Making Techno with Music Robots” is a sound installation in which robots play unusual homemade musical instruments. It is currently at display at the Ars Electronica Center Link
A snare, relays, an electronic Kalimba or a pneumatic hi-hat produce exquisit sounds. The musician, robotics engineer and media artist Moritz Simon Geist builds all his robotic instruments himself.
Small piezo microphones record the sound and reproduce it via an amplifier. LEDs on the instruments visualize the sound. The result is a futuristic sound world, which is also visually unique due to the self-built instruments and robots. The sound automate plays a track by Moritz Simon Geist every 5 minutes for the next few years.
